SULAYM's Ghaliyah

It has been over two years since I embarked on the maceration process for this Ghaliyah, a fragrance that marks the culmination of a journey stretching back many years. In truth, my personal story in the world of making fragrances began with the maceration of musk and ambergris, the very essence of what would eventually lead to this creation. But this Ghaliyah is more than just a fragrance; it is a tribute to a formula believed to date back to the time of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), inspiring an ancient yet timeless idea of fragrance. With it being Rabi-ul-Awwal it marked the right time to launch it.

Named "Ghaliyah," this fragrance honours a distinguished class of scents known for their luxurious blend of oud, musk and ambergris. Crafted with deep reverence, every ingredient has been selected to resonate with the rich lineage of its origin. This is no ordinary perfume—it is a complex tour de force, meticulously assembled from rare and uniquely sourced ingredients, including:

The base begins with creamy HM Mysore Sandalwood, in perfect harmony with dark, sensual Tongan sandalwood from the 1990s. Central Asian musk grains impart a deep, animalic character that fills the air with a primal allure. White ambergris, chosen for its exquisite olfactory properties, adds a layer of oceanic complexity. His Majesty's atelier has provided the exquisite Bulgarian and Ta'ifi rose, while the saffron, harvested in such minuscule quantities, is a labour of love. The painstaking effort required to cultivate each season’s yield is astounding, with every thread of saffron a reflection of the artisan’s dedication to his craft. When I visited him, he told me it took many harvests to get this batch right. After hundreds of hours of care and close attention, the yield was remarkably small—yet all of that dedication and love has gone into this Ghaliyah.

'Red' frankincense from the Sultan’s atelier, added in the second year of maceration, is a treasure so rare and exquisite it could stand alone as a top tier single-note perfume. It is perhaps the most valuable ingredient in my essential oil organ, costing more than most ouds in today’s market. I remember the first time I experienced it—as a lover of frankincense, I had never encountered the resin in this form before. It was immediately clear that this was the perfect frankincense oil for SULAYM's Ghaliyah.

To fully appreciate our Ghaliyah, I invite you to apply just a swipe to the back of your hand and take a moment to inhale its notes—without rubbing it in. At first encounter, the Sultan's rose and the depth of the frankincense intertwine with camphoric notes, immediately commanding your attention. As the warmth of your skin embraces the oil, the Oud rises, evoking a deeper resonance. This journey crescendos into a burst of musk, a finale made even more divine by the Italian saffron, which delicately threads all the notes together.

Due to overwhelming pre-release demand and the limited supply of final product, we are only offering Ghaliyah in 1-gram vials, each adorned with our handcrafted purple wenge lids and brass seals.
