DESCRIPTION
I have to admit, I made a bit of a mistake over the past few months. I’ve been slipping small samples of this Ta'ifi rose into customer orders, and what follows is a barrage of emails and Instagram messages asking why this rose isn’t on the website. The demand is constant, making this one of the most anticipated launches of the season. I don’t like to use to word magical, but it’s fair to say this rose is simply enchanting.
Hailing from the mountainous regions of Ta'if in Saudi Arabia, this area is renowned not only for its beauty but for being visited by the Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon him). It’s fair to say He left a fragrant mark on the region, which now produces what I believe is the best rose in the world. Barakah. Due to the higher altitude and cooler temperatures, the aroma is beautifully complex. Each rose is handpicked within a really small window in the early hours of the morning, capturing its essence at its most potent.
The oil smells intense yet soft, with underlying notes of Assam tea and Yemeni Sidr honey. There’s a verdant citrus touch, but age has mellowed it into a smooth, sensual aroma that unfolds gently, layering richness upon delicacy.
Here’s a little perfumer’s secret, albeit a personal one: Ta’ifi rose is in a league of its own. Unlike other roses in perfumery, it has an uncanny ability to elevate a great fragrance into something remarkable. Our Ghaliyah, which sold out almost instantly? The rose behind used? This Ta’ifi. Dusk Musk, our new mukhalat everyone wants pre-release, the rose used? This Ta’ifi. What makes it so special is how it enhances everything it touches, making the main notes crystalline and diffusive with a projection that’s unmatched.
To create just 2.5ml of this elixir requires 5kg—yes, 10,000 rose petals. Perhaps I should have called this rose oil 10K Ta'ifi(!)
