DESCRIPTION

We recently conducted a poll on our Instagram, asking over 2,000 followers which Ultima oil we should release next. The results came in, and there was a clear winner. You wanted this oud, and we don’t blame you. SULAYM recently showcased it in our Heritage Collection discovery set, and the number of customers who requested offline sales clearly demonstrated its immense craftsmanship, richness, and appeal.
In the short description, I mentioned that the quickest way to describe this oil is as our now sold-out flagship Oud Nᵒ 1 on steroids. Having worked with HM oils for a while, there seems to be a distinct DNA across the range. There is a calibre, a level that all oils strive to achieve. This is that oil. As it represents the pinnacle of HM oils, it only felt right to name it after the Sultan himself.
Nᵒ 1 was known for its unique grapefruit and fermented blackcurrant opening, which dried down into a thick, smoky, incense-laden base. But HMSQ '79 continues to amplify the purple/red opening for much longer. As the heart of the oil starts to emerge, you begin to detect notes of henna, hay and iris, and then finally, Burmi wood on low heat (a lot of it!). I often refer to this oud as the big brother of Nᵒ 1—a statement that's not easy to make, but one that I stand by.
If there is one oud that fragheads will stop and ask you about, it’s this one. Wherever you go, you leave a trail of incense—a beautiful, purple regal fragrance that takes over any room you walk into. It makes sense that this Oud was chosen as the benchmark for all other oils that followed. A royal fragrance made for a King.

''The greatest ouds from His Majesty's atelier have a distinct DNA, one that has perplexed vendors for years. There was an assumption that some of the later ouds might have been co-distilled. If they were, it was using the wood intended to create this oil. This fragrance is the pinnacle of Middle Eastern style oud. It is extremely loud and unmistakable in its presence. Its sillage carries across the room when you walk in, and the incense note—reminiscent of fumigating your wardrobe with wild oud chips—lingers long after you have left. As I’ve said before, this oud is the full-fat originator from which other famous Sultan oils derive...''
