DESCRIPTION
Over the past year, SULAYM has become renowned for its HM Sultan Qaboos oils, and the support has been overwhelming, but if I’m being honest, my true passion lies in bringing together the finest natural fragrances to create attars, ghaliyahs, and our unreleased fragrance lines. Following the incredible response to our Ghaliyah, it felt only right to introduce a new musk-based mukhalat.
Creating a worthy successor to Ghaliyah is no easy task, especially when the original was aged for two years, crafted with royal ingredients. So, how do you follow a fragrance that sold out almost instantly? The process is as follows…
At SULAYM, fragrance creation doesn’t rely on the typical base, middle, and top notes. Instead, I follow a traditional method passed down by my teachers: mentally envisioning the final fragrance without using my nose, then crafting it, note by note, using my organ to bring that vision to life.
The journey of this fragrance began with a rare and precious ingredient: a vintage gardenia, aged for over 50 years. Next, I blended a wild Malacensis Malay oud, with love from my dear brother MesOUD, and combined it with the same musk that brought our Ghaliyah to life. The result is nothing short of phenomenal: Dusk Musk.
The name captures much of the fragrance’s description. Dusk signifies the transition from day to night. The Ta'ifi rose embodies the final light of day, while the musk signifies the deepening night. Gardenia and neroli are like stars, twinkling softly against the darkening sky. The oud emerges as the moon, growing more prominent as the light fades. Imagine a musk deer wandering through a rose garden as the day draws to a close. Even the oil’s colour reflects the time of dusk—as the sun sets on a clear wintry day and you hear the call to prayer.
I really hope you don’t think too hard about purchasing this one. Replicating this natural fragrance in the future will be a challenge, as some ingredients are truly irreplaceable. The price is intended to keep it accessible to as many as possible. Think of it as a final introduction of what’s to come.
