SULAYM had an oud distilled a few years ago and has been waiting for the right time to launch it. This oil, a successor to a renowned Cambodi oud from years past, sets a very (very) high bar for how Cambodi ouds should smell. Freshly distilled oils often lack depth, making it difficult to discern their complexity immediately. Over time, certain notes become more prominent, revealing the oil's true character.
For over a year, I revisited this oil around every six to eight weeks, eagerly anticipating its development like a child on a long journey, asking, "Are we there yet?" The note I was most eager to let age develop was the green, mentholic, almost mint-like aroma. With the advent of the new Islamic year, I believe it is finally ready to be unveiled to the world. We proudly present to you Koh Kong 1444.
I’m currently experiencing the oud from the vial as I write this, and I want to share the journey you travel on as you experience this amazing oil. Koh Kong 1444 opens with a verdant, mentholic, almost camphoric aroma. As it unfolds, you'll encounter wild honey laced with berries and red jam. Deeper inhalations reveal notes of cacao and caramel, with hints of pink pepper that shoot up your nose.
Cambodi oud is often described as the most 'easy-going' oud for those new to pure oud due to its sweeter and flowery notes, but this Cambodi carries a real depth and complexity that will be truly appreciated by oud enthusiasts.
As it dries down, it leaves a beautiful incense aroma that can only be described as ethereal, woody, and sweet. Buy with confidence; I believe this will be one of those names that customers will keep asking for long after it's sold out.
