Ceylon Cinnamon

Long before it was a spice, cinnamon was a mystery. Herodotus recorded the Arabian tale that it was gathered from the cliff-top nests of giant birds, and for centuries it was treasured in the ancient world's most precious perfumes, incenses and remedies, later prized by the great physicians of the Islamic golden age. Its finest form, true cinnamon, comes from Sri Lanka, where the great traveller Ibn Battuta found it washed up on the island's shores, and where it is still harvested by hand: each shoot is rubbed with a brass rod until its inner bark lifts away in strips of remarkable fineness, then nested layer within layer and left to curl slowly in the shade into delicate golden quills.

At SULAYM, our Sri Lankan Cinnamon has been resting and maturing for years before taking its place in the Oud Botanica range. We have paired it with a 2021 Thai oud, distilled slowly over seven days, and rounded with vintage rose. The result is a composition of rare depth and warmth.

The oil opens radiant and effervescent, with a fizzy, cola-like sparkle that settles into honeyed sweetness and hints of orange peel. Our oud, infused using a secret in-house method, brings depth and a soft incense-like smoke to the composition, while a delicate touch of vintage rose rounds it all together.
